The home has three phases. The first phase is shown above, the second phase is to build and cover the outdoor stairway and converting the second floor to be handicap accessible, and the third phase is to add additional housing and a common living area.

Philoxenia House, Inc. opened its doors in 2002. Since then it has housed families from the United States as well as other countries. It has been a home away from home for the patients and their families while receiving medical care at Johns Hopkins University, Johns Hopkins Bayview and Kennedy Kreiger Institute. The Ladies Philoptochos Society of Saint Nicholas, fundraisers, donations and volunteers allow the home to operate and serve those during difficult and trying times.
